I don’t know what I would do without Sandi and Nick Batik and the rest of the DBD Estate Services “crew”! As a probate attorney for over 30 years, there are times when a decedent’s home needs to be sold but no family members are available to clean out the home and get it ready for sale. If you have ever walked into the home of a deceased client, you understand what a daunting task this can be. With their project management skill set, Sandi and Nick can walk into any home, no matter how horrible (and I have invited them in to some of the worst situations you could ever imagine), evaluate what needs to be done, estimate the time it will take to complete the job and hire the people necessary to carry out the tasks that are required. Once their freight train starts moving, all you can do is get out of their way and let them do their job!
Some of the most important work provided by DBD Services include: (1) insuring the home and contents are secured; (2) finding and cataloging financial records (including bank and investment account statements, outstanding bills, all types of insurance policy, tax returns, etc), pictures, jewelry and family heirlooms; (3) determining what, if any, repairs and maintenance are necessary and contacting other members of their team to get estimates of the cost of repairs and maintenance; (4) packing up (and sometime delivering) assets for family members, donations to charities, etc; (5) working with estate sale vendors to determine the best way to sell valuable assets that no beneficiary wants (6) working with the estate attorney to get any cable or other rented equipment in the home returned to the correct place. I’ve even had jobs that were so bad that they had to work in haz mat gear, hard hats and goggles!
Having watched them go through every item in the home to determine what needs to retained for the family, what can be sold and what can be sent to the dumpster, I always notice that the most incredible thing about working with Sandi and Nick: they understand that every person’s belongings tell a story about that person’s life and family and deal with this property with the same love and care that they would treat property that belongs to their own family and friends. When I asked Sandi how she was able to keep her helpers for so long, she replied, we believe in treating people the way we want to be treated and then feed them pizza!”
The bottom line is this: when the need arises, you should call DBD Estate Services and tell them you need help. You’ll be so glad you did!!
